INTERVIEW with ROBIN WALDROP

Q: What inspired you to write “Ties to the Blood Moon”?

A: It started out as one of those crazy dreams. You know, the kind that you just can’t get out of your mind. Once I realized it wasn’t going to go away until I wrote about it, I knew I would have to create something far different than what was already out there…so I did.

Q: How did you come up with the title?

A: It just came to me one day. You know how you remember having a dream, but can’t remember about what? Well, that’s what happened to me. So, as I tried to remember what the dream was the title just popped into my head. I googled it just knowing it had been used several times, and to my surprise, I couldn’t find another book anywhere with the same title.

Q: Who designed the cover and how much input did you have regarding the design?

A: The awesome Claudia McKinney-phatpuppyart.com designed the cover. I simply told her what I had in mind and a little while later she emailed me the cover. As soon as I saw it I fell in love. She is a wonderful artist and extremely easy to work with. She is also designing the cover for book 2 of the series.

Q: Which of your characters in “Ties to the Blood Moon” are your favourite and why?

A: That’s an unfair question because I so love them all, but if I had to choose, I would say William. He’s mysterious with a touch of bad-boy thrown in ... lol!

Q: Is “Ties to the Blood Moon” your first book?

A: No, it’s actually my second. My first book is shelved right now. I hope to get it published in the next month or so.

Q: What was the hardest part of writing this book?

A: The beginning. Starting any book is hard for me. I probably wrote the opening twenty times before I found something I could live with.

Q: Did you learn anything from writing “Ties to the Blood Moon” and what was it?

A: I would have to say yes. I learned a lot about grammar and POV writing this second book.

Q: What makes “Ties to the Blood Moon” any different from other paranormal books with the same theme?

A: Some people have said, “It’s just like TWILIGHT.” When in fact it really isn’t other than the fact there is weres and vamps, and a love triangle. BUT, if you look at any love story you will find a love triangle.

Q: What are your current projects?

A: Of course book 2 of the series, but also I am working on some short stories I will be releasing in the near future. When I finish book 2 of the series I am going to take a short break from it and start my Zombie love story. Can you imagine ... a Zombie in love?

Q: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

A: In between writing book 2, I am working on outlining a prequel to book 1. A story about the chief’s family. That should be interesting.

Q: Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

A: Winners never quit, and quitters never win! You must always keep writing regardless of how bad it gets at times. It will pay off at some point. And also, never stop reading. A great writer always reads more than she writes.
